His wife, still in Camden, declared herself a widow in the 1940 census. In 1931, a Eugene Clifton of Camden was arrested with three others, including a mane named Arthur Eilet from Union City, for stealing $750 and other items from a parked car in South Plainfield, NJ (https://www.newspapers.com/image/313810848/).

There was also an arrest for a Eugene Clifton in Jersey City in 1922 in which he was described as "proprietor of a garage in West Hoboken" and identified as one of two people who robbed a payroll 14 Aug 1922. https://www.newspapers.com/image/314572704/?terms=%22eugene%2Bclifton%22%2Bconvicted.
