Obituary | 10 August 2010, her obituary was published in both the Patriot-News (Harrisburg, PA) and The Gettysburg Times: August 5th, 2010 marked the passing of Eloise O. Marass to her eternal life with our Lord. At the time of her peaceful passing, she was surrounded by her loving husband and three generations of her family, including her four children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchild. Eloise, known among her many friends and family members as "E", "Lee", "Eve","Hon", "Mom", and "Nana", was born on April 1st, 1926 in Elmont, New York, daughter of Jesse P. and Lillian Agnes Blake, sister of King and Norman Blake and Melvin and Earl Greenleaf. Eloise married Charles J. Marass on October 25, 1947; they began their lives by building their first home by hand in Toms River, N.J., then later resettled to northern N.J. where they remained for the next 20 years. While there, Eloise focused on raising their young family and attending to her ailing mother. Eloise and Charles became residents of Gettysburg in 1969, and have since become very well known and loved members of the community. Eloise selflessly gave of herself through near continuous volunteer efforts in support of the American Red Cross; the Gettysburg Hospital; Meals on Wheels; and as an active member of the Eastern Star for 66 years. Since their arrival in Gettysburg, Eloise and Charles have been members of the Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, committing countless hours of their time in support of the Church's varied activities. In October 2007, Eloise and Charles hosted and celebrated their 60th anniversary celebration in the company of many family members and friends. Cherishing her memory are her loving husband Charles; her daughter, Karen and husband Charles, of Gouverneur, N.Y; her son, Keith and wife Jan, of Burke, VA; her son, Kevin, of Hatboro, PA; and her daughter, Kristy and husband Dennis, of Camp Hill, PA. Eloise will also continue to live on through her 8 grandchildren, Chris, Charles, and Jennifer, Jason and Jamie, Lynn, Jesse, and Steven; her 8 month-old great-granddaughter, Vera; and, truly, through her remaining family and the multitude of friends who have come to know and love Eloise over her years. A memorial service celebrating her life and our countless memories has been scheduled for Saturday, August 14th, 2010, 2:00 pm, at Prince Of Peace Episcopal Church, 20 West High Street, Gettysburg, PA, 17325. She will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, Eloise would have preferred, and the family invites, memorial contributions in her honor to the Lutheran Home Care & Hospice, Inc., 260 W. High Street, Gettysburg, PA, 17325; Prince of Peace Episcopal Church (address above); or your favorite charity.5 |
