Mary Boyle1,2

#197, b. 25 March 1877, d. 1 March 1964
Marriage Certificate, WIlliam A. P. BAILEY and Mary BOYLE, 1899, front
Father*James Boyle3
Mother*Mary Gallagher3
Last Edited19 May 2018
Name Variation Mary Boyle was also known as Minnie Boyle The family knew her as Grandma Esposito, because she was a true stepmother to Howard Tucker Bailey and his brother. Shortly after her marriage, Mary discovered William had two other children and apparently after the 1900 census she insisted he bring them to live with them. Howard Tucker Bailey and Howard Louis Bailey both spoke of her with great affection. Her devotion to William's children didn't end after William died and Minnie married Joseph D'Esposito.4,1,5
Birth*Family history notes show she was born on 25 March 1877 at Glentes, County Donegal, Ireland. The 1900 census gives her birth date as March 1877; in 1905 she gave an age of 27; the 1910 census states she was 29; the 1920 census gives her age as 37, giving her an approximate birthdate of 1883; the 1930 census gives her age as 45, giving her an aproximate birthdate of 1885, and states she was married for the first time at 19. The 1940 census gives her age as 50, and therefore a birth year around 1890. She married William Augustus Parmalee Bailey in 1899, which would make her birth year c1880; the 1925 census says 45, giving a birth year of 1880.1,6,7,8,9,10,11,5,4,3
Immigration*She immigrated between 1898 and 1899 to the United States.8,9,10,11
ResidenceAt the time of her wedding to Charles Augustus Bailey, Mary Boyle was living at 31 Clinton Street, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.3
Marriage*She married William Augustus Parmalee Bailey, son of Charles Augustus Bailey and Ida J. Parmalee, on 13 August 1899 at St. Stephens Church, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. William and Mary each stated that this was their first marriage, but this is untrue for Willliam and reinforces family stories that he didn't tell Minnie he had children until after they were married.

The officiant was Rev. N. J. Doran of St. Steven's Church, and the witnesses were Thos. Jos. Donahue and Rose E. Castle.4,2,1,6,7,3
